Q&A with Nick Sakowski, Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Written by:

Q: What excites you the most about working at a company like Apex?

I'm primarily excited about getting to work with my awesome team as we develop the system that will finally bring high-rate production to the small-sat industry. Creating a novel solution to the satellite market's demand is exciting and rewarding on its own, but getting to work with such motivated, inspiring individuals is what I truly look forward to every day. (also, the snacks!)

Q: Why are you excited about space?

I like space because it's cool! Plus, our industry is growing and changing so quickly; it's exciting to be at the edge of new developments and to be able to help shape the direction our field is heading in. Someday the space industry will be as integral to daily life as the automobile industry, and to be working on the foundation of that future is a really cool thing.

Q: You are somewhat new here at Apex. What has surprised you the most so far?

I think a number of us, before coming to Apex, have been let down by traditional aerospace and forced to accept inefficiency. Being here now and seeing how fast we execute, adapt, and grow, and just how unified and on-board everyone is with getting us to our company goals really blows me away.

Q: Tell us a bit about what you do in your free time.

I like to spend time in nature, whether that looks like going for a hike, skiing, or diving. On inside days I really enjoy cooking and watching movies with friends, but if I'm missing work I'll sink a few (or several) hours into Factorio.
